Landing gear motor
Harbor Freight's 5,000 lb winch re-configured to act as a PTO. The output shaft is shown here in it's new position. The 'spool' has been eliminated. The gear box has been reversed (flipped around). See videos below for help reconfiguring the winch.
These components enable the spool to 'freewheel' . These parts need to be removed from the winch and discarded.
AFTER THE WINCH HAS BEEN RECONFIGURED:
This photo shows the modified spool installed into the landing gear assembly. The spines shown here match up with the planetary gear box (the gear box and motor are not yet installed).
Now, with the gear box installed, this photo shows the input side of the planetary gear box (the motor is not yet installed). Notice the small hex shaped drive shaft, the motor slips over this.
Lastly, the motor is coupled to the gear box using the chrome rods that originally held the winch together. So, we've basically removed the spool from the winch, spun the gear box around, and re-coupled the motor to the opposite side of the gearbox instead. We removed the components that allow the winch to freewheel. We also cut the spool apart to utilize the spline gear.
